In just six weeks, DiNovember will come rooaaarring in with an exciting event taking place at both EPL and Lower Macungie Library on the same day!

Registration begins Oct. 1 for the 11 a.m. to noon event at EPL: email emmauspl@cliu.org, call 610-965-9284 or stop at the desk. Go here or scan the QR code for info about the 2-3 p.m. event at Lower Macungie Library.

The last Plant A Row collection is Oct. 7

Plant A Row produce collections total a whopping 689.18 lbs. so far! At this time last year, the total was 499.25 lbs.--also no small potatoes. With three more Mondays to go, we could break 700 lbs. this year and set a new record.

Our amazing volunteer, Sue Kowalchuk, thanks everyone for their generosity and for taking care to clean and package their donations: "Produce was clean and the vast majority of tomatoes were packaged and/or protected in plastic containers or cardboard boxes. This enabled tomatoes to keep their integrity and provided food banks with a way to distribute produce. It made my job--and more importantly, the work of the food banks--much easier."

Donate unwanted jewelry to the Friends of EPL in October

Have orphan earrings, broken watches, or other unwanted jewelry gathering dust? Do some fall cleaning and let the Friends turn it into funds for the library by donating it next month.

They welcome any and all jewelry--used and new--in any condition. A secure donation bin will be at the library throughout October. Just package your jewelry in plastic bags and drop it in!

August private-funding update

The private-funding thermometer rose by $4,874 in August, bringing the total to $70,688, or 51.8 percent of the goal.

Donations and fundraising totaled $3,570, with a $2,500 gift making up the bulk. Sales in the Friends' Book Nook totaled $470, with $834 in cash receipts for lost and damaged items, printing/copying, and room rentals adding the rest.

The library also received a $15K Trexler Trust grant that will be used to address our technology needs--much appreciated! The grant is separate and aside from the private-funding goal, which is applied toward operating expenses that are not covered by state and local funding.

With four months left to go, the gap to the goal stands at $65,656.

Check back next month for September results and please continue to show your love for the library by making a one-time or recurring donation, honoring a loved one with a memorial/gift book, or getting a jump on your holiday shopping at the Friends' Book Nook.

Banned Books Week on Hoopla

Celebrate Banned Books Week (Sept. 22-28) on Hoopla with a diverse collection of audiobooks, comics, and eBooks featuring frequently banned and challenged titles.

Uncover stories that push boundaries, provoke thought, and celebrate the freedom of expression.

Hoopla is free for residents of Emmaus and Macungie Boroughs and Upper Milford Township. If you live outside the EPL 'home' area, please check with your home library.
