September is Library Card Sign-up Month

It may be small enough to fit in your pocket, but a library card opens up big possibilities... from access to 1.4 million items, to free museum passes, loads of engaging events, free WiFi, computer access, a 24/7 digital library, and much more--there are endless possibilities to explore.

Do all your friends and family have a library card? Tell them about it so they can enjoy all the perks--or invite them to join you on your next visit!

There's no minimum age, and getting a card is FREE and easy—just go here for info, and stop in or apply online to begin the process!

The stacks are alive with The Sound of Music...Sept. 27

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the classic Julie Andrews film, and to celebrate, we're hosting a special concert!

Come hear live music from the iconic 1965 movie by accomplished pianist Patrick Kerssen, sing along with jazz renditions of beloved songs from the film, and learn all the behind-the-scenes details of the movie, song by song. 

Free and open to all ages. Registration required.

A Matter of Balance begins September 18

Only a handful of seats remain for the next series of A Matter of Balance, an award-winning program offered in conjunction with the Allentown Health Bureau designed to help you reduce the risk of falls.

The 8-week series kicks off Sept. 18 and will meet Thursdays through Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Class size is limited to 12. Because these are continuous sessions, you are required to enroll for all 8 weeks.

Oct. 2: Save the date for Community Heroes Day

Our annual Community Heroes Day--where everyone of all ages can drop by the library to meet our first responders--is coming up Thursday, Oct. 2!

Try on firefighter gear, and see what it's like to sit behind the wheel of a hook-and-ladder truck from the Emmaus Fire Dept. or Vera Cruz Fire Company. Check out the inside of an ambulance and chat with our Emmaus Ambulance Corps. Ask our local Emmaus Police questions about their jobs, and check out their vehicles. It's your chance to meet and talk with the local superheroes who save lives and help keep the community safe--and it's one of our favorite events of the year!

Community Heroes Day takes place in the library parking lot, which will close at 5:30 pm to welcome all the vehicles.

New museum pass for Philadelphia's Magic Gardens

Fall is a great time to visit a museum, and we now have one more venue for you to explore, free with your library card: Philadelphia's Magic Gardens, featuring the work of Isaiah Zagar and furthering the legacy of Isaiah and his wife Julia.

If Isaiah's name sounds familiar, it's because he was the artist behind the library's colorful mosaic. In fact, Isaiah has mosaicked more than 200 walls and buildings over 50 years. Learn more about the Zagars’ life and work.

Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens provides access to Isaiah’s two largest immersive mixed-media art environments: the Magic Gardens Museum and the Magic Gardens Studio, both of which are completely covered with mosaics. Isaiah used handmade tiles, bottles, bicycle wheels, mirror, and international Folk Art to chronicle his life and influences.

The museum pass is good for 2 adults and up to 3 children, and can be borrowed at the desk by adults with a valid Lehigh Carbon Library Cooperative card in good standing, or by any paying non-resident adult LCLC cardholder.

Fall & storytime...perfect together

The evening book club is back!

After a summer break, the evening book club is ready to kick off another season. 

The first meetup takes place Oct. 14 at 6:45 p.m. to discuss White Noise by Don DeLillo--the inspiration behind the award-winning motion picture starring Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig.

Some copies are available to borrow at the desk. 

The evening book group meets monthly on the second Tuesday, and is currently reading books on the theme, 'So Then This Happened.' Go here for their lineup and book summaries through Jan. 2026.

Oct. 11: LV Audubon Society visits the library

Don't miss a special visit by the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society in October to learn about the birds that live around our homes and local parks.

They'll be sharing info on the birds' fascinating behaviors and migratory strategies, how to attract them to your yard, as well as what they look like.
